Also known as clap, gonorrhea is a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease. A bacterium called neisseria gonorrhoeae causes gonorrhea. This bacterium multiplies very quickly in the urinary tracts of men and the reproductive organs of women. Many times, gonorrhea remains undiagnosed in women, as the symptoms may be absent. That may cause development of pelvic inflammatory disease in women. This is a highly dangerous condition. Gonorrhea can be treated with antibiotics.
