Nail Fungus: Causes

Causes

A fungus family known as dermatophyte causes nail fungus. This fungal infection is also called onychomycosis. This fungus is similar to the fungus that causes fungal infection in the feet skin, also known as athlete's foot. The fungus that invades the skin may also invade the nail plate and slowly infect it. Though nails are hard, the fungus invades them and makes them crumbly, discolors them and makes them look bad. Another kind of nail infection is caused by yeast. The yeast does not cause athlete's feet, but attacks weak nails and invades them.
